I’ve known Lindsay since I was about twelve years old, she was fourteen at the time and the older sister to my best friend. I’m sure she found us annoying little kids but as we grew up (and matured) we’ve become closer. Since her sister and I were inseparable throughout high school, we both went to the same university and now live blocks away from each other, you could say Lindsay and I turned into sisters by default. I knew all the important life milestones or funny experiences and we had our share of nights out together too. I even knew about the day Lindsay and Matt met. A fun story that involves a girl who might have consumed a bit too much alcohol (Lindsay) and a bouncer at the club (Matt) having to care for said drunk girl. After that meeting they started dating and since then now have their sweetheart puppy named Kinder and have bought a house. So when I heard they had got engaged and Lindsay had asked me to photograph their wedding day, it was a true honour. Knowing that I’ve been in this family’s life for 16 years and I get to not only share in such an important time but I also get to document it was a proud moment.
The day started off with threats of rain, and while there were on and off showers, everyone was in good spirits and all smiles. I met the guys at Brookstreet hotel where they got ready and enjoyed their scotch and cigars. These guys were all jokes and I couldn’t stop laughing the entire time. Lindsay got ready at her parent’s beautiful home in the country – the perfect fall setting with trees covered in colourful leaves. Before the ceremony they opted for a ‘first look’ so they could have a special moment alone together. That way we could also take photos before guests arrived and they could go straight into their cocktail hour to enjoy it with friends and family. After the photos were taken the wedding took place at the Marshes Golf Club, which provided the perfect backdrop to compliment their fall wedding. Throughout the ceremony and then during the reception speeches you could just tell these two were surrounded by so many people who love and support them, there were tons of jokes and stories shedding light on how fun they are. To finish off an incredible day they partied the night away where Matt’s dad schooled us all in dance moves! And at a certain point during the night I turned into more of a “guest” and let loose on the dance floor only to close down the venue with the bride and groom – it was a great night!
I’m so proud of Lindsay in everything she’s accomplished and I couldn’t be happier for her and Matt in this chapter of their lives. I’m sure I’ll be celebrating much more with these two in their future!
