Meagan and Strachan had originally planned to get married in June of 2020 at Toronto Golf Club with roughly 200 guests. Unfortunately, that couldn’t happen due to Covid and they had to postpone to the following year but they decided they’d still get married – they just wouldn’t tell anyone about it! Meagan wrote to me saying they were throwing a curveball and were going to get married at Strachan’s family cottage where his dad could marry them since he was a judge. They would only have their immediate families there and they wouldn’t tell anyone they got married till the bigger celebration in 2021! What a secret! Not only are these two friends of mine, but we have a lot of friends in common so I had to keep this secret from all of them too. It was definitely worth it though, the micro wedding they put together was so incredibly special and I was honoured to have been a part of it.
The ceremony took place right on the dock overlooking Lake Muskoka – which is the same spot they got engaged. It was personal and heartfelt that they were surrounded by only family and that Strachan’s dad officiated. Afterwards they had a champagne toast, oysters and family photos. We then took some time for photos of Meagan and Strachan and their dog, Boss, around the cottage. It was extra important to them to include their dog so we made sure to get lots of photos with him. And as the sun was setting they took out the classic wooden boat and enjoyed some time just the two of them newly married. Once photos were done it was my time to leave but they kept the party going with a family dinner and celebration.
Words cannot describe how honoured I felt to capture this wedding. On my drive home while listening to the new Folklore album by Taylor Swift (which was so fitting since Strachan is obsessed with T. Swift!) I had to stop for a minute to fully grasp how special it was that they asked me to be part of that day. It might have been all the emotion from that album, or it was more likely how significant it is to see your friends get married and know that they found their person, but I totally cried. Meagan and Strachan, I love you guys so much! I can’t wait to party and be way too close on your new wedding date and to celebrate your marriage for years to come!
Meagan’s family cottage is just down the lake so she arrived by boat.
Their pup, Boss, came to greet his mom to walk her down the aisle.
They had a champagne toast after the ceremony and someone was really interested in the bubbles (the photo below)
It was really all about the pup! How could I not take a million photos of this stud!?
